One Week Left: Have you helped LA yet?
January 24, 2013
Los Angeles’s homeless youth still need our help! Your donations to My Friend’s Place are still being matched by Millennium Hollywood, but only through Thursday, January 31st, so please don’t delay!
Each donation makes a huge difference in the life of someone who really deserves and needs a helping hand. Just $100 can cover the costs of formula and diapers for a young homeless mother. And if you can spare just $10, that’s enough for a TAP card that’ll enable one young person to get out and search for housing, jobs, and education opportunities. You can give directly from our Facebook Page. We’ll match total community donations up to $2,000, and we’ve got almost another $1,000 to raise to hit the matching limit!
This time of year, clothing is always in need. If you’ve got a gently used coat or boots just taking up room in your closet, please come down and donate to someone who really needs them.
In this video, one young man describes waiting for months to find a pair of shoes that fits:
As we learned from Executive Director Heather Carmichael, My Friend’s Place’s programs go far beyond providing food and clothing—the organization creates a nurturing environment that stabilizes troubled young lives, and gives those in need the tools to take control, in the face of great adversity.
While also providing health and communication services, My Friend’s Place offers creative workshops that engender hope and positivity among young people. In one teen’s words, having a sanctuary like MFP reminded him he “has a reason to live”—what could be more important and valuable than that? To hear more about My Friend’s Place’s immeasurably positive effects, have a look at this video from HiddenLA:
As the inaugural Helping Los Angeles campaign draws to a close, we’re proud to have raised more than half of our goal, and confident we can go all the way in this final week. So please, visit our “Donate” page on Facebook today! Help My Friend’s Place, and Help LA!
